Arterial or ischemic ulcers, which may start simply from trauma, have impaired healing due to peripheral arterial disease. If not treated in a timely manner, these wounds become infected, may have extended tissue necrosis, and may eventually lead to amputation. The key to treatment is improvement in the vascular perfusion to the affected area. Patients with ischemic ulcers should be referred to a vascular surgeon to determine if revascularization is needed and to plan the procedure. This session will review revascularization techniques for arterial ulcers.
